cute jeans and t-shirt look

Hey everyone! Welcome to my new and improved life & style blog now called CourtneyRice.com! Do you notice it looks a bit different around here? I’ve been blogging for a while about wanting to change the direction of my blog to a lifestyle blog and cover topics that get my creative juices flowing at this phase in my life — the late 30s. O.M.G. How did that happen so fast? Clearly it was necessary to change my blog title from ‘Life At Thirtysomething’ because I’m on a slippery slope to…um…well, that big number that will remain nameless. 🙂 I will be blogging about easy everyday style for women and self love topics like fitness and beauty (hello, going to try making You Tube videos!!), and I’ll be exploring girl boss topics such as side hustles, blogging, or just scratching that creative itch you may be daydreaming about but have yet to scratch. I’m excited to get started! BUT FIRST, can we just talk about how to style a simple jeans and t-shirt look?!

My go-do everyday uniform is a cute pair of jeans and a t-shirt with a little front tuck. I mean, my go-to daily uniform is technically gym clothes but you know what I mean. When I’m running errands, going to dinner, date nights, girl’s night, etc. this is my uniform. So basically everything. Anyway, to take a simple jeans & tee look from basic to stylish you need a few key pieces that I’m sharing below.

From basic to stylish

Take my simple outfit in this blog post… I’m wearing distressed black jeans, a sleeveless white tee, jean jacket and these cute sling back booties. Not breaking the bank here and it’s easily replicable. To make this outfit go from everyday errand running with your Converse on to a casual evening night out I added the CUTEST tassel earrings; a stylish black and white striped woven tote bag (great for summer), and tan sling back booties, which, paired with black jeans is unexpected and gives added interest to the overall look. I just went from basic to stylish without sacrificing comfort. And comfy chic is my jam.

I need to zero in on these Nakoma Chandeliers from Stella & Dot because they basically give life to this outfit with those bright pops of color. I never knew I needed bold tassel earrings like these in my life until I had them and I was all; omg how have I liiiiived? The best part is they are lightweight and don’t tug on my ear which is the death of an earring for me.

And this Taj Tote bag is the prettiest little woven tote bag that you ever did see! I was a little apprehensive about taking this bag on our recent spring vacation because I thought she might actually be too pretty to let sand or a pool within 20 feet of her. But I braved it because I loved how the tote carried all my stuff and it was just fine. Sand easily dusted off and we were good to go. What takes this black and white tote from cute to gorge is the colorful tassels hanging from the strap. It definitely helped to add some color and fun to my outfit.

If you like this and you’re a gal that loves a good oversize clutch then you may also love the bestselling Taj clutch, which inspired the Taj Tote!

So these Universal Thread Milliana heeled sling back cutout fashion booties from Target are my new go-to open toe shoes for spring and summer. They are SO comfortable and I’m talking like day 1 comfy. YASS! Never happens with heels. And for under $35 you need to snag a pair before they sell out!

Walking in a deserted alley toward my photographer like… lol!

People ask me how I get these curls so I’ll share here on the blog that I use the Beachwaver, which is a ceramic rotating curling iron. It’s the best way I’ve found to get that beach waved look, hence the name! I plan to discuss all things hair in an upcoming blog/video!

Summer is comin’ ya’ll! You can’t be outside on a sunny day without a good pair of sunnies! These Simmone Sunglasses in Noir from Stella & Dot are the perfect shape for most faces and have a cool subtle ombre’ look from black to a deep blueish/purple at the bottom.

I’m thinking my photographer friend must’ve said something HILARIOUS at this moment to elicit this double chin laughter. Either that, or I got a serious case of the giggles from having my photos taken in my first blog photo shoot!! I seriously had so much fun with my friend Natalie of Natalie McIntire Photography. She’s a fellow fashion lover and professional stylist so she just gets what I’m trying to do and made me feel so comfortable. If you’re local to Indianapolis and need family photography or you are a local blogger in need of a blog photographer she’s your gal! You can also find her on Facebook here.
